Default Can I put lowering springs on stock suspension?

I am thinking of lowering, but didn't want to break the piggybank. Is it acceptable (and not a ride-ruin mod) to just put lowering spring on the stock suspension or should I bite the bullet?
If springs alone is OK, which ones are best?
Thanks,
Miguel

Reds,

The shocks/struts are the weak link in the system and must be replaced. Most people seem to go with Bilstein HDs if they don't do the PSS9 or PSS10 coilover system. There are tons of threads on this which could keep you busy 'till Monday. Just do a few searches on this board for shocks, springs and suspension.

Have a great Thanksgiving and welcome to the board!

You can but more than likely your ride quality will be poor. Since aligments are not cheap for these cars, I typically say to replace the dampers at the same time avoiding two alignments. One after the spring change, then, a little while later, another one after you realize you need new dampers

Happy Thanksgiving!!

If your shocks are factory original Monroes, they are shot. Not replacing them is a waste of labor/time and money.

When I got my car, it had H&R springs and stock shocks. Horrible combo.

from what I understand, the stock shocks are to "long" for shorter springs - the springs will cause the shocks to bottom out, and as Chuck said, the ride will be horrible.

good luck and happy thanksgiving.

Can you? Yes. Should you? Please, no. My 97 had "lowering springs" and the stock shocks when I got it. Looked nice but did not ride/handle like a 993 should. H&R springs with Bilstein HDs made the car ride and handle as it should. Still no comparison to the PSS9s on the 95 though.
