So you are going to be at Moffitt of USF's campus? You can take your pick where to live then. From South Tampa it's probably still less than half hour given you're going against traffic. From Carrollwood, Carrollwood Village or Northdale, probably 20-25 minutes.

Mixes of houses in each of those communities in the midrange. Rick probably has better insights on South tampa (anything south of Kennedy). A different lifestyle, but your money may not go as far. "original" Carrollwood is decent but houses are generally 70's. Great for yards and trees though. Carrollwood village and Northdale are both newer, mostly early 80's construction - so fairly grown in as well.

From Moffitt, New Tampa may be a little more challenging traffic-wise but not terribly so. Homes in New Tampa are definitely newer, so there may be more availability of 3-car garages.

Last place I can think of would be Temple Terrace. Very convenient to the campus (like 10 minutes) but homes generally older (like 70s) I think.

My house is for sale, but it doesn't meet your needs (2 car carport.) However, I have a really good realtor for the South Tampa market if you would like to see some places. PM me if you want her number.
Here's the website for her brokerage: www.smithandassociates.com
I have a couple of friends who are Professors at USF that live in my neighborhood. They say the commute is nothing since they are going opposite traffic. As for wooded, it's an act of congress to get a permit to cut down a tree in South Tampa.

So what's the update, did you move etc..

It's cold up here and I thinking on moving south. Tampa seems attractive....

My sister has a newer condo in South Tampa area - on the Gandy bridge causeway with a view overlooking the bay. She's selling but also considering lease for someone who needs a place until ready to buy something. PM if you are interested and I'll get you in touch.
