When it is mounted above the mirror, is the radar antenna clear of the black frit on the windshield ?
Currently I have mine mounted just below the mirror so I don't see the bracket at all or the EZPass which is behind the rear view mirror

Currently I have the V1 out and have a 9500 zip-tied to the mount. The only issue is that the 9500 needs to be forward enough for the GPS sensor to get a clear signal. I had thought that there would be issues with other cars being able to see the 9500 display (it's bright blue), but given the low height of the car, the unit being high on the windshield, and the rear glass being lower than the front, the display is not visible from the outside at all.

A follow up to this thread and what an awesome resource it was mounting up my Escort 9500ix.
My car is a '95, so i had the wide visors, they dont allow any room between them. I found visors from a 96' coupe, these are just 2 inches narrower. They allow for the gap where the radar is, and require no further modification.
I used a 1/8th" x 1.25" x 13" aluminum bar. measured, drilled, dremmeled the holes and painted it flat black. Just like david i trimmed the sun visor anchors down about 1/8th" and screwed them back in with the bar sandwiched in the middle. Its a very secure set up this way, and the radar gets a good GPS lock. the little 1/16th zip ties are a safety to make sure the bracket doesnt ever slide forward and out. i keyed a notch in the top part of the bar to lock the escort bracket to the bar by friction. even though its tight that i cant move the bracket by hand, i wanted a back up.
thanks David for this thread.

Glad it worked out for you! So there is no issue with the Escort getting a GPS lock? I have a 9500ix as well and will likely swap out my V1 for it as frankly the V1 arrows are not that useful where I live and the GPS function would be more useful.
BTW, not sure if you saw my earlier comment but I highly recommend adding a remote mute button (~10-5 from eBay) on the turn signal stalk...almost as useful as a remote display (are you using a remote display with the 9500ix?).

i used the 9500xi windshield bracket (without the suction cups of course) with the mount bar in order to hang it. when i had the radar up against the roof/bar at the front, it wouldnt get a lock. once i modified the escort bracket to lower the radar by about 1.5cm it is now able to get a lock (as photographed). instead of the bracket pointing forward, then making its 180 bend, i angled it straight down, then a 90 degree angle back.
I am using a hard wire kit that comes wired with a remote display and mute button. i put a static cling decal on the bottom of the radar as a map to the buttons on the top, and the remote mute is helpful. i have it next to the shifter between the seat and the center tunnel hump.

Thanks on the comments wrt GPS lock. I may experiment this week as I have a rivet tool coming in a few week and I'd like to get rid of the zip ties for a more permanent attachment.

Two rivets would be perfect!
Yes that's exactly where the mute button is. There were other spots but they all stood out. In that location it can quickly be tapped and its out if sight, and so is the radar mostly w this set up.

Why all that fuss when you have this simple solution?

Hey Kevin, are you having trouble with GPS signal from that spot? A 9500xi just fell in my lap and now I'm learning the ropes of radar detectors... Haven't had the chance to try it in the 993 yet but I read that you need an unobstructed view of the sky in order to get a clear GPS signal from the top antenna.

If i use search, people say im trolling!! ???!?!?

as far as portable detectors go, the 9500ix is awesome. you're going to love it. The GPS is very slow to lock in this location, but it will lock 85% of the time once you're out of the garage. Bending the bracket to get it to sit a little lower and further away from the ceiling will help a lot.
