Default Suspension Upgrade Questions...

Guys - I think I've got the wife convinced to let me replaced the suspension on my '95 993 with 89K on the clock. I want to see what my options are, I think most have went with ROW Springs and Bilstein HD Springs, yet I think I am leaning towards the Bilstein PSS9 because I want the flexibility of adjustment.

My questions are:

1) Where is the best place to buy this stuff from?
2) How difficult is the installation or should I just have someone do it?
3) Are there other important "while your in there parts" to replace?

Thanks in advance!!!

Andy

Call Steve Weiner at Rennsport Systems in Oregon. He'll take good care of you and give you the most sound advice for whatever your needs are.

PSSS-10 is a big improvement over -9. They fixed most of the shortcomings

Other things that you migh think about
RS adjustable sways
RS uprights
RS arms

It's a very slippery slope and it's hard to find a oplace to stop.

My $0.02 is PSS9/10. Like you said, you have infinite adjustability with height and firmness. I've seen many drivers wished they just gone to it instead of single rate springs/height. I was one of them. Everytime I looked at my M030 ht 993 then.. there's that "man juuuussst a tad lower would have been perfect.."

I'm sure Steve Weiner carries the Bils PSS

How do you think you will use the car and what percentage will be on the track? If you have no desire to do DE's, then PSS-9's and 10's are overkill, IMHO.

I agree with Mark. You need to define why you are replacing the suspension by indicating your goals for the car. If you just want it lower and tighter for street use and occasional DE, I'd stay simple with Bilstein HD and M030 springs. You say you want flexibility of adjustment - why?

+1 Kind of my point in telling him to talk to Steve, he's never steered me wrong for my purposes. I have HD's/H&R springs at RS height with Turbo sways etc. and I am delighted. Do I yearn for a set of PSS10's? Of course I do.... However, I have no illusion of being the next Senna/Prost and I use my 993 for a variety of different tasks from grocery getting all the way through a handful of DE's. I personally think that PSS10's/Motons etc. are overkill unless you live at the track. Of course those are famous last words as I'll probably talk myself into "needing" them soon enough. I fully understand this slippery slope and I am not immune to it bu isn't this all about having fun with your car? I had a GT3 for a while which was immeasurably more capable than my 993 (although I still had the same capability in it) but was far less fun to drive so I got rid of it.

Agree with Mark et al. If you're 100% street (or merely the occasional DE guy with maybe 1-2 per year), then the added cost of PSS' doesn't really get you "more" of anything. "Adjustability" for what what purpose when HDs and good boingers will suit the varied conditions of street driving perfectly well. And ride height is still adjustable as HDs are threaded just like the PSS'. If I were you, I'd take the dough you "save" from not getting a PSS and get sways ...22mm front and 21mm rear (from the RoW M030). Installing HDs/springs with these sways, along with a good alignment, will absolutely transform your car. Of course, all IMHO.
