Default cost and installation effort for new exhaust tips?

I'm looking at a 97 C2S with scrapes on the bottom of both exhaust tips. I'm not sure if it was backed into a curb or just bottomed out backing out of a drive or something, but they are pretty shot. What is the cost to replace these with Porsche original parts? Also, is this a simple DIY, or is it involved?

Simple DIY, but parts are expensive if you go OEM.

you can find the big ovals on ebay for about $65 instead of several hundred for the OEM tips

The hardest part of this is getting the old, rusty bolts/nuts off, but some PB blaster, time and elbow grease and you'll be fine. Takes just a few minutes.

I got my replacement SS bolts and nuts at the local hardware store, much cheaper than OEM and powder coated black big-ovals from fisterd right here on this forum.

Very easy and you should get the black powder coated ones. I have them on my black car and they are sweet. I get compliments on them all the time (well, the sound of the Fister II's get's their attention and then they see the tips).

Thanks for the quick feedback. I figured it was easy DIY, but forgot to look when I was checking out the car.

It only takes a little patience to ensure both side align.

I have the black FisterDs on my white narrow body. Fit well, good price and they look right. Some of the bay units don't have the correct angle to match the body.

There was a very good Rennlist Group Purchase about 2 years ago, but I'm sure someone will recall the guy's name. I bought a set which still look like new and they were very reasonably priced. I had to buy a Dremel cutter to release the seized up clamp bolts and bought new ones at a fraction of the OPC cost through a Fleabay site specialising in small order SS nuts and bolts. The Porsche on-line parts catalogue specifies the exact replacement part sizes by the way.

Your post reminds me of a black 993 Cabriolet I saw yesterday in Manhattan (visiting a friend for the weekend). The left tip was bent upwards in the bumper cutout--clearly a back-up problem. It was sad to see. Good luck with yours!

P.S. Got lots of family in TX, including Austin. They're Chinese and the ones born there have TX accents, and some even speak Chinese with a TX accent...

Parts are expensive if you go OEM, that's for sure. If you have the regular C2S standard oem tips, you can find replacement OEM tips for not too much cash. However, if you have the OEM big ovals, you are in trouble if you are going with OEM. I think the going rate is in the 600range for the pair..

Unfortunately for you, the $65 ebay Big ovals will not fit your C2S. These are only made in NB versions. Your C2S tips are offset by ~35mm and therefore these ebay big ovals won't fit your car. Just FYI. Good luck.

Great clarification. I completely forgot about the WB vs NB issue.

The black ovals look really cool too

Mr. Fister is working on a WB "big oval" tip with the same look as the NB tips...
(in his spare time ) I think he is close... but needs to make some (in his spare time )
