Default oil change

Hello:

Last year in December (2007) I performed the oil change on both of my weekend cruisers. Time has come for me to do another oil change, but the thing is both of my cars (993, and Elise) have less than 1200 miles on the oil and filter. I understand that I must perform an oil change at least 1 a year, but with so little mile on my car, I need to know if I do the oil change, DO I HAVE TO CHANGE THE FILTER?

Thanks

I had the same issue on my SC, about 800 miles in one year. I went ahead and changed the filter this time but from now on will not change the filter with so little mileage. It definitely is not dirty in 1200 miles so I think you can save yourself some trouble.

Spend the 30 bucks for a couple of filters if you are going through the trouble. You will sleep better.

Thanks for the response. It is not the mondy, it is just the hassle especially on the 993, where the small filter is such a pain to change =)

Thanks

Your Porsche Maintenance Manual (not the Owner's Manual BTW) requires for cars driven "low yearly mileage" that the oil be changed annually but not the oil filters.
Otherwise it is 15000 miles for oil changes and 30000 miles for the oil filters.
If it were me, I wouldn't do the filters annually with only 1200 miles, after reading this in my manual.

Great you are changing oil once a year. I always change both filters with low mileage. But if you absolutely know the small filter was changed last time only the small filter probably can be skipped.

If you don't change the filters how much oil are you leaving in the engine? My first oil change is due and I was planning on changing the filters. It has been 4000 miles and 8 months since the last change.

1.5 qts. for the two filters (p.151 Owner's Manual).
