I thought the HID install was supposed to be fun...

As a follow up to my comment, Vertex replied to my email today and will rush out a replacement bulb assembly and apologized for sending a DOA. I went with the 6000K so i don't blind oncoming traffic.

FWIW, there is a factory TSB and fix for this problem. I don't have the info with me but the fix pieces from Porsche are relatively cheap and do the job. Had to do both of mine also.
Edit: found this on "pcarworkshop", don't think he'll mind me posting this:

Installed my HID kit yesterday, bought on eBay from the source recommended by others on this board (fjt2000). Pretty simple, really. Had to Dremmel one housing, but not the other. Retaining clip hinges are deformed a bit, but usable.
Great results. Went with the 5000K color.

That would have been a tough, but memorable, ride. I know a few guys that have done the old trashbag trick.
I hung up my helmet last year, but still think about my rides nearly every day. I used to have an R 100 RS, then moved into an R 1150 RS:
No. The car is actually Arena Red. The avatar is quite dark, so I'm going to have to do something about it, but my tech guy removed my Photoshop Elements, and I can't find the software.

i am looking at ordering the aceparts hid kit which apparently has a slim ballast that fits right in the housing and i have not heard about the problem of getting the bulb in without filing. We'll find out soon enough I guess because unless someone tells me otherwise they will be ordered tomorrow

These instructions, posted by Aceparts, may help in fitting. http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t...t=hid&start=24
I ordered my kit in March this year. The ballasts were not slim enough to fit in the headlamp & I didn't want them "wedged" behind.
So I followed Alan's instructions & pushed all wires though the big grommet (plenty of lubrication required) & mounted them on the inside of the inner fender (wing for Brits).
Wire for the earth can be fixed to the conveniet earth stud in the trunk. Wire for the 12v +ve is taken into the headlight via a 3rd notch & connected directly to the 12v +ve. This avoids any splicing into the multi plug socket.
Hope this helps.
