I have days when I just love my cab and days when I'm not so sure I made the right decision. I don't know if it's just my car but my top has some rattles that I'm sure you don't get on a coupe. Either way, I'm just thankful that I have a 993! Booyah!!!

I have owned both: '87 911 cab, 993 C4S, 993 cab, and 993 C4S.
The two cars I enjoyed most was the 87 cab and last 993 C4S. What I learned, about myself and these cars, was we have different stages in life and there cars complement those stages.

I have both. Started with a CAB and added later a 993c4s. I just had to have a coupe as I really like the lines better. However, when I drive to work top down I never would sell the CAB if I always will be able to hold both. And yes - very often in the morning I pick the CAB. And when I drive with the guys around on a Sunday early morning I take the coupe as it's more special ;-)

90% of my driving here in Sydney is roof down ...same climate as Nor Cal, I would guess
Keep the radio / cd off and enjoy the world ...
Take a coupe owner on a 100 mile country drive and show them what they miss ...sounds of the birds / rivers ...when your not pulling +
4500 rpm ...lol
As for classic line / P car history ... wasnt the 356 also a cab

I bought some Der Autobahn Mirrors for the blind spots from Girot's Garage and these work great.

1) Yes, but nothing special and you can always have issues with your sunroof too.
2) Cabs are best enjoyed on mild weather days.
3) No, 993 cabs are particularly stiff convertibles.
4) Not so bad but bigger blind spot than coupes.
5) Both cars are nice...it's a personal matter.
My first 993 was a cab and I've owned thee 993 coupes since. As any cab owner will attest and few coupe owners know, there is nothing like the experience of driving a 993 with the top down on a good day. I sold it to buy a coupe to prepare for track. I miss my cab but the coupe does feel very open with the windows and sunroof open. In a perfect world, I'd own both but if I had to settle for one, I would give some thought as to how I plan to use the car. Is it a weekend only car? Do you have any interest in taking the car to AutoX or the track?
The Bay Area does offer the perfect weather for a cab...

If You are devoted and enthusiastic Porsche driver, You may prefer coupe, not cab. Its stiffer, offer more precise steering, its lighter and sportier. Cab is kind of Porsches chill version.
My strongly personal opinion indeed.

This is my second cab and I love it.
The top will need service at some point but I read a few threads about sunroof fixes as well. No doubt the cab will over time require more.
I use my mirrors and don't feel as if I am not able to see well enough to change lanes, etc.... The coupe gives you more rear corner visability than the cab but that does not mean you are at risk with the cab.
My car has a strut brace and a roll bar and handle no worse than a coupe - at least for me. I AutoX and now DE (you need a roll bar for DE).
Yes, you will get more sun in a cab. If you love the feel of an open sports car, the cab is the way to go.
I like the way a coupe looks and in general, the lines are probably better, but I love having a cab. The cab also has better crowd appeal if you are in to that.
Last but not least, with the top down and the Fister II exhaust, you get the full effect of owning one of the worlds best sports cars.
I hope this helps.

Keep sunblock in your car! Duh!
Also, as long as you have your mirrors properly adjusted, you shouldn't have a problem with changing lanes. It's backing up that can be a pain--I use my side mirrors and stick my head out of the window if I need to.
There is chassis flex, but it really isn't that bad. Remember, they designed the 993 coupe and cabriolet together so that they didn't have to add much additional structure to the cab. It's pretty stiff--not like a new Mustang. God that thing is wobbly! I have MO30s and 18" rims, and don't feel like it flexes too much at all.

I currently have a 993C4 Cab and love it. Previous I had a 928s, 944 Cab and a 964 Targa and that was always heading to where I was now. If you want to do track time then maybe the coupe is the way to go. Since I never take the p-car out in crappy weather I always go top down, but it depends on what you like. I thought I would like the Targa coming out of the 944 but six months later I decided that the Targa wasn't everything I had hoped for. I am one of those that thinks it's my "toy" car so I want all the wind and sun I can get (I had Harley's before moving to Porsches). Body flex is well handled by later cabs (964 & 993), there was a recall on top motors IIRC on the 993 Cabs and yes the top will wear and slowly fade - it's just a fact of life with cloth tops and sun. Just my $0.02. Have fun with whatever you end up with.
