Default Strut brace tuning or adjustment?

OK, so I just picked up the OEM RS model # 964 343 042 00.

Here's a really stupid question: in tightening it up, I should be "extending" it outward, pushing until hand snug, not "shortening" it by pulling the towers together, right?

Tightening it to snug...pulling the towers together.

Thanks, Bob. It's back out to the garage for me. Glad I asked!

Cornering under high loads acts to pull the towers apart, which reduces negative camber. For average street driving it probably doesn't make any difference .

I just ordered one from KLA. How does one know how much to tighten? And do you need to have the front wheels off the ground when you tighten?

Just snug. Like Bull said...
You just want to tie the tops of the towers together.

Bull, That's interesting. If I recall correctly, the instructions that came with my Brey-Krause said to set the preload about 1/2 turn Outwards from no resistance, which really didn't make sense to me. Maybe I need to call them to confirm.

Just checked the Brey-Krause website and in the support section, the info sheet for my bar says :

"Step 6
We recommend pre-loading the brace by rotating the tube in the direction which lengthens it 1/2 of a turn.
*Be careful , you can rotate the tube several turns with little resistance and put enormous force on the strut
towers, therefore do not exceed 1/2 turn from the neutral position!"

In lengthening the bar, I would assume you would be pushing the towers apart.

Don't push anything apart or pull it together !!! just adjust it till it's snug and you're done. The bars are not for spreading or pulling, they are just to keep the towers moving together as a pair not individually.

But my question is that there are two "snugs."

Seems like as long as it's not too tight, it doesn't matter, but by my count, it looks like the "inboard" snug slightly leads the voting.

Snug is snug......it does not matter if you do it inboard or outboard, it's the same result in the end......that is, as long as you snug it while on level ground and you don't change the geometry of the shock towers by over tightening.

Steve and Zombie, after reading the Brey-Krause instructions (see below), would YOU "snug" it 1/2 turn shorter or longer, or just to the point of feeling slight resistance (say about 1/8 turn ?) shorter or longer ??
