Default Help removing broken emblem

The front hood crest broke the other day and I am trying to replace it now. It broke at the two pins that run down through the hood. So now when I turn the nut under it, the whole pin rotates since there is nothing attached to keep it from turning.

Ideas on how to remove it safely?

Can you get the pin to extend above the hood surface? If you can, you
may be able to grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers or needle nose grips.
If this approach might work protect the area from
scratches with a couple layers of painter's tape.

Or retrieve the pin/nut combo from below with needlenose pliers (unless the head of the pin does not fit through the hole in the sheetmetal).

Or heat up a small nail or screw and insert it into the remaining plastic. You will then have something to hold on to while you unscrew from the other side.
I hope you have learned your lesson and will not go over 175 mph again!

Nope, can't raise it up enough off the paint surface to grab it.

Tried pliers from underneath but its super tight in there. I can grab the nut but it slips off and can't really get a good hold of it.

From what came with the new kit it looks like these nuts just press on, they aren't threaded. Is this correct?

Finally managed to get it done. The painters tape worked. Just had to CAREFULLY grab what I could that was sticking through and press hard on the ratchet from underneath. Nothing like a nice sharp pair of needle nose pliers with only a few strips of painters tape between them and your freshly painted hood

Thanks for the help!

Glad you got the remnants off.
The nuts don't press on. They are "speed nuts", stamped steel that cut their own "thread" (sorta) on the badge posts.

That explains the odd threads on the old piece, and why the new one didn't have them
