If anyone is considering this mod all i have to say is do it!!!!
My 1997 targa feels amazing with it and it just runs so well and i feel a great difference.
Yesterday me and my buddy who has a 2003 carrera4s went for a spirited drive and all i can say is that he could not pull away from me...and we went all the way to fifth gear and well over 200km...it was amazing how my pcar pulled and wanted to just go and go...ok its not a turbo but theres a great feeling when your pcar just runs great!! he was amazed that he couldnt pull away...

Too bad the 96's don't have a fix for the ECU (yet?) otherwise I'd have Steve set it up.

Having the Rennsport chip for 4 years, it has the mid range (3rd/4th gear) boost---at least thats where I feel the power comes from.

Very satisifed.

Are there any solutions to the 96 ECU's other than grab a 97+ ECU? There has to be something out there, piggyback maybe?

There are some piggyback mods that stack another CB (with a re-programmable chip) over the existing ones, but I've found that technology less than 100% reliable.
