Yeap I agree. Also dont forget a lot of wear and tear items at these miles that for sure will come up if they have not been replaced. For example drive shafts. I just think that you are looking at a major overhaul. You seem to be a DIY kind of guy so you have a lot of potential savings replacing staff which will be needed. If the last clutch change was at 120K you are looking at a new one shortly as well etc...
I would offer mid teens max as you will need to damp a good 15-20K on the car. The only other thing that you may need to think is resale value. If you are planning on keeping this car for a long time the point becomes mute.

FWIW I had first hand knowledge of a C2 with 175K change hands last year for $17K. I think the owner was asking $18K. I remember the compression and leak down numbers were fine.

I agree with Danny^^^^^^^this would be a car you would want to stay in and not have to be concerned with trying to unload it in a year or so.

I'd be hard pressed to buy it based on what I've heard so far, but then again, I haven't seen or driven it. It could turn out to be great... or it could be a very tragic ownership experience. As others have said, if you want a 993, I'd suggest you look for a lower mileage one for a bit more. Heck... for $30k or a bit under you could have my red C4 cab with 41k on the clock.

Murf, if you're serious, send me the details on your C4.

What attracted me to this car was obviously the price and the fact that it's a one owner 993 with all records with no paintwork and local. Now I find, it has had paintwork and it needs some more again plus the cleaning of the ports will be necessary again.

As far as resale goes, I think my ultimate plan was to have a car that I could drive without too much worry and restore/fix and then down the road get another 993 with low miles that I could coddle and baby, once my other vintage vehicle was sold. The owner will probably not let it go cheaply, so the point is probably moot.

While the seller is an older gentlemen, how can you forget that your Porsche has had a clutch done as well as paintwork? I remember virtually everything about my cars.

I sent you a PM with info and a link to pictures. I'm not actively trying to sell, but if it is the car someone is looking for and it worked out, I'd let her go with my current situation.

Your last comment is exactly where the deal lost me. I was reading through the chain of replies initially thinking I'd respond that you should consider it until I saw that and it swayed me. I wouldn't forget a new clutch or paintwork on any of my cars. The odd thing is on one with that many miles, I'd have expected it to have had at least one, if not more, clutches.

Hang in there... the right one will come along.

I keep asking myself why the seller would be deceptive about the clutch and paintwork and then not take these receipts out of the folder. The clutch and paintwork were about 7-8 years ago, though I still wouldn't forget.

Murph, I'll respond to you using your email address about your C4 in a bit.

If you don't mind high miliage, why not consider a 911 3.2 from the 80's? Drive the hell out of it!

I just prefer the 993 and 3.6 better.

Also, the one owner always-CA 993, all records and meticulous upkeep that was advertised was the "hook" for me. I just didn't fall for the "line and sinker" part. I would not have been interested in a 223,000-mile car with 5 or 7 (or whatever) owners with little or no records and that has traveled around the country.
