Default Better than sex!

I've been dreading passing my California smog on my 1996 993 Targa/tip. I've gotten consistant SAI fault codes and have been reading-up on methods to get past the CA Smog testing.
I have the Durametric software and, after understanding the systems a little better, tried to clear and set the readiness codes. Using the method from Adam Streather's book I failed miserably as all five readiness codes failed! I reset the readiness codes and was able to get two of five to pass. Went to the Smog shop and the owner there used his hand held scanner and thought it should pass, however when plugged into the big smog machine, it failed. He said to drive the car some more and maybe it would pass later.

Saturday morning I tried the BMW method and four of the five codes passed.

Just got back from the smog shop and car passed! I am so happy to not have to deal with this for another two years!

I think one of the keys in the whole process if to skip the first part of the proceedure, the cold start idle, if you have failing SAI issues like I have.

Anyway, I'm good to go!

+ 1 Used the BMW method on both my 993 TT and my current 993 C 2 S
worked first time, both cars.

Great news on passing! I recently went through this (two weeks ago) and with the kind help of a PST2 and some good folks, we got all six readiness codes to set, twice. It takes two drive cycles of setting them, from what I now know.

Great to hear, as we were grumbling about that over at Fister's......... I guess I'll roll mine out of the garage sometime and give it a shot, too. (No CEL, just readiness issues.)

You are/were doing something wrong, regardless of the two subjects.

Yes, it took me two as well, but after the second drive cycle, all were reset!
