Default Door latch problem

Getting the 1995 993 track car ready for our trip to Watkins Glen, I found that the driver side door would not latch. Hmm, not good; door not staying shut might be a problem with tech inspection, and would definitely get be black flagged.
Symptoms: exterior door handle trigger is loose; feels disconnected from the mechanism. When I try to shut the door, it just bangs against the stop and does not latch.
I sprayed some lubricant in the lock and around the latch, and wiggled the latch as well. It seems to behave properly, turning and springing back like the passenger side latch.
Interior door pull (RS door panels and pull) unlatches just fine. After the lubrication, I can now close the door and have it latch (so I will pass tech), and open from inside with the pull.
But, exterior door handle trigger still feels disconneected and has no resistance when pulled.
I am guessing there is a broken or slipped adjustment in the mechanism behind the interior door panel.
Any suggestions as to what might be the cause and how to identify/fix would be most welcome. I tried search function and did not find any relevant posts.
Thanks in advance.

Whatever it is, you can bet your bippy it's easier to fix than the door latch mechanism on a 928.

I feel better now
I had a 928 once upon a time (1987 928S4); really liked it a lot.

Hi Rick,

Did you ever find out what was wrong and how to fix it? I'm having the exact same problem.

Cheers

Hi Allffy
I have not found an answer, but the problem kind of comes and goes.
I squirted some lube into the key slot and into and around the mechanism (by pulling aside the inner door panel).
The next day, I couldn't latch the door. Left the car out in the sun for 1/2 hour and then all was fine.
So, I will tear into it after the last track event (sniff) and perhaps find that it was just a lube problem. Sure didn't feel that way, though. Felt more like a broken part or something disconnected.
I will report back if I learn something useful.

Had the exact same problem here on the passenger side door. Some lube sprayed around and in the outside door handle took care of it.

I'll be darned. Glad to hear that I can still fix things with a shot of lube.
Thanks Allffy and Ron (who I may have already told that my car came from Cincinnati).
