Default Steering rack time (UK)

Hi folks,

My turn for a steering rack leak.
New is approx Gbp £850 + £450 labour + vat. Ouch!
Any suggestions?
Anyone know of reliable rebuilt stockists in Uk.

TIA

Griffiths
are a premier US rebuilder, selling LHD racks for ~$700 - perhaps they can source a RHD unit ....presuming that is your need - worth a contact via that link?

Installation is a feasible DIY ....BTDT

Actually I found out that recon by OPC is is approx Gbp £850 + £450 labour + vat. Ouch!
New is £1600 + labour

Anyway, I have been given far more reasonable prices by independent recons.

Basically they take mine out, rebuild it and then put it back in. Is that an acceptable way to go?

Thanks

If they have a reasonable reputation & rebuild using ZF parts, that is the way I would go.

Resurrecting an old thread here. My steering rack is leaking. I order a rebuilt one from Autozone (Rennlist recommendation) only to find out a couple days later that they are not available at this time. I contacted Griffiths (post#2) and they no longer rebuild steering racks. Griffiths referred me to a company in Chicago called Precision Remanufacturing. I called them and they have one. The exchange price was very cheap at $275. Does anyone here have any experience with Precision Remanufacturing? Thanks

I've had a slow leak in mine forever but have been putting it off due to the cost of a ZF reman rank. I'm wary of getting anything else. Had a Griffiths rebuilt rack (E30 M3) in my BMW that only lasted 70K miles (BMW racks generally last forever).

Only lasted 70K miles? My car has 58K on it and the rack is leaking so I would be happy if a rebuilt one lasted 70K.

Try these guys.

http://www.powersteeringpros.com/add.../80-00438.html

I used them a year or two ago and have put about 15K miles on the rack with no issues so far. They ship FAST and this link shows a Monday ship date so it must be in stock??? The rack came packed well and looked like brand new (factory ZF with tags etc). Also came with all boots etc.

Good Luck.
