Default How many miles before new clutch?

Roughly, whats the expected mileage before a clutch needs replaceing?
Some cars seem to never need one. Just cirious really. I drove a C4S recently and the pedal just felt different from my 2S. It went fine but was just wondering.
Cheers

92k miles before I sold the car on the original clutch.

The car you drove feels different because the C4 have a different hydraulic system than the c2. The C4 have the additional accumulator which boosts the clutch hydraulic pressure, so the pedal will fell lighter than the C2.

On the 968 there is an access hole where you can stick a socket and measure the distance from the end of the actuating arm to the clutch housing (?) and get a pretty darn close idea of how much was left of the clutch plate. Is there any such measurement on the 993? Any other way other than just before the clutch starts to go out?

The 3rd party dealer said my car had a new clutch installed about 5k before I bought the car but had no paperwork so naturally I considered that a "non plus" if they couldn't prove it.

78k mi on the car.

Had 62k on my previous 993 when I swapped for a LWFW and new clutch. Original one still had about 1/3 left.

No way! It's more like 61,213 miles, to be exact.

Seriously, some drivers can roach a clutch in 20,000 miles while others, with perfect timing and mechanical feel, can take it to well beyond 80,000 miles.

The guy that did my PPI thought 40-50k was a typical number, but mine currently has 62k on it and is still going.

82K on the '87 3.2 Cab.
83K on the OEM '98 93.
Another 40K on the 993 before it had the top end rebuild at 120K. Clutch was ok still, but it was the perfect occasion for a "while we are in there" LWF/RS.

Or even farther beyond 80K. My car has 97K on the original clutch, and it's fine. My car was owned by a series of old-guy types, including a female doctor for four years (seriously, I have all the records). The PO had the valve guides and major service done at about 80K by Exotech and Dan said the clutch looked fine.

I have the RS kit sitting in a box waiting to be installed as soon as I get a few free days (which may be never). But it won't be because the clutch was going.
