Imobilizer question
Ok.... I did a search but couldn't find a straight up answer.
Is there a way to eliminate the imobilzer on a 97 993?
It could just be that I don't understand how it works, but I's love to be able get into the car and start it without having to jump through hoops to get the car running.

Mike,
How do you leave your car? Unlocked? Key in or out of the ignition?
I'm not sure what hoops you are jumping through, but these tips have worked for me:
1) Make sure you have fresh batteries in your remote
2) Lock the car when not in use (good advice anyway!)
3) When unlocking / entering the car, get the key into the ignition first (i.e. don't fumble with bags, electronic gear, etc. and then insert the key)
4) If the car does not start right away, and the immobilizer light is illuminated on the clock, move the key to position 1 and press the button on the fob. The immobilizer light should go out and you can start the car as normal.
Good luck! If these tips don't work, maybe there's a problem with your system. Give us some more details and we'll try to help.

if you leave the key in the ignition the immobilizer is never activated (I do this at the track or sometimes in the garage). otherwise, the immobilizer should be de-activated by simply unlocking the door. if not, Robin is probably right and you need a new ecu.
