Default Broken Engine Carrier - Need Help

Hi Everyone,

After a spirited day at the track on sunday and just prior to going out for the last session I noticed one tail pipe sitting a little low. I thought it was just a loose tail pipe, to my surprise the engine carrier had broken.

Does anyone have any tips on removing this? does the exhaust need to be removed to gain access?

I have seen the extra strengthening that different guys are adding which i will be doing. I also picked up set of RS motor mounts from Sunset. I thought while i was in ther i may as well upgrade.

Any help, thoughts, suggestions or feelings of support are welcome.

Regards

You need to remove the engine carrier and have it reinforced, like this:

I'm not sure how engine carrier removal works in a 993, but I know that in the earlier models of the 911, all you need to do is support the engine with a floor jack and remove it from inside the engine compartment (four bolts at the center, one engine mount bolt at each end). You could probably just get in there with a flashlight to see how it comes out.

I'm with Noah, I've done it on my 88 but not on my 993 and I don't have it at home to look at. I had to lower the engine a couple of inches. You might can do it from the top after you lower the engine. Might have to remove the AC compressor and some other stuff. Those mount bolts can be really stuck so don't be surprised if you bend or break the other end getting it loose. I sure did! Go with one of the reinforced replacements. Ken

It is a difficult job. You need to jack up rear end. Remove Alt and ac belts. Undo engine mount bolts. Remove bumper. Lower engine a bit while supporting it. Remove cat converter. Remove heater tube. Remove rear engine tin. Use two special tools to remove the crank pulley. Then remove engine carrier. Assembly is reverse.

I had also problem with engine carrier. Just 2 weeks ago I changed and modified mine. Bought whole new carrier and parts of the old one were welded to new one. Additionally solid engine mounts from Wevo were installed.

In my case engine carrier was bent. I have TPC supercharger and I believe, reason was added torque.
