Default Removed the blanket on the oil cooler ;) ...and a Q.

Apparently, I have a very fine oil seep at the cooler which results in a blanket of furry, grimy crud that literally blankets the lower half of the cooler. In the summer months, I can tell the blanket is there by the temp needle taking longer to drop at speed (or when I hit my over-ride switch). It has done this now for a year, cleaned it out last year (about this time), and so I decided to do the same cleaning out ...can of Gunk and a hose with the fender liner and lower-most cowl removed.

Well all is good again, but here's a question: the grungy blanket is all around the lower third-half of the cooler on the intake side, and the hoses/joints are bone dry. So where is the seep coming from?? Do I have a crack? Ugh, hope not! Thoughts??

My oil cooler was replaced for exactly this reason a couple of years ago. It had a small crack, but never lost enough oil to even know it was leaking except for the "crud", exactly where you describe. All the hoses and connectors were fine and were reused.

At the time, my mechanic said the parts guys in Atlanta were expecting a gradual increase in orders for the coolers...I guess all that heat cycling takes its toll.

No, not a crack!! So yours exhibited the same symptoms as mine ...man I didn't want to hear that. Thanks for giving me the goods, though, Darryl!
I suppose I can source one out ...after I do the clutch and all the "while I am there" parts ...ugh!
