Thumbs down 993 sunroof

A little help? Sunroof won't open, seems like it's stuck. Motor seems willing, but won't go. Any suggestions befoe I head to the dealer? Thanks

Sounds like the cables. Apparently this is a common problem with these cars. The only advice I could give you is to replace both cables (R&L) at the same time. I assume you can hear the sunroof motor running? If so, this was the exact symptom I has with my car. My repair bill was $300 plus parts. I outsourced the parts for $120. Good luck.

I had the same problem. After removing the sunroof I found that one of the cables had pulled out of the bracket (nothing broken). Didn't cost me anything to push it back in with some epoxy and re-crimp.

Do a search for sunroof repair (maybe try the 964 forum as well) to find a tutorial on how to r/r the sunroof; or pay someone a few $hundred to do it for you. Edit: I just remembered the sunroof cable repair DIY is on the Pelican Parts Technical Forum.

Good luck!

I had a sunroof issue recently but it wasn't the cables.
There is a small gearbox/transmission just above the roof liner zipper. This transmission can become loose, causing the housing to crack and dislocate the worm gear. It is a 15 minute fix but the part is $450. I was able to get a used one for $150 from a Porsche dismantler out of Hayward, CA.
This is also a common problem.

What he said... I was lucky enough to just tighten the screws and it fixed the problem.
