Default Turquoise Blue question

I have heard that Turquoise Blue color is unique to the MY96 model 993's...but recently I have seen a 964 for sale locally and the owner swears its original paint. Can someone enlighten me on whether they make 964's in this shade also..just curious

thanks!

I don't recall Blue Turquoise being avail on a 964... but it could have been a paint to sample. The option sticker should confirm it.

According to PPG it wasn't a standard color. PPG is not the final word but pretty close. http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.asp...rsche-pg01.jpg

Looks like a Cobalt Blue was available as a standard color in 93-94 http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.asp...rsche-pg01.jpg

I have a '95 993 Cab that is "Paint to Sample" Turquoise 35X indicated by the paint code on the drivers side front fender under the carpet. I cannot find 35X listed as a code for Turquoise for other years but I know the color was offered, I think in '86 or so then '90-'94. Finding touch up paint was simple however. I just don't understand them sometimes.

Blue Turquoise was a standard color for MY96 and MY97 993 automobiles. It was seen on Boxsters and 993s. Few were produced in that color. It was just a bit over the top for most buyers.

The color never entered Porsche's pallete until 1995 for their MY96 cars. Thus, it could not be put on a pre-MY96 car. Paint code was J1 and also 3AS.

It could only be a Paint To Sample color if produced after 1996. Since 964s were produced from 1989 through 1994 it's just not likely unless it was a late 1994 964 and a product of some very early testing of the color.

be careful, several color codes are referred to as Turquoise.

L25C (or D depending on type of paint used) is Turkish Metal (like my car). I know this color only on MY96, maybe 97 to 98 too (not sure). Especially the 993 Targa came in this color. A few 4S and narrowbodies too.
It is a very complex color, going from blue to green depending on the light, very metallic.
I think that color is going to become a collector in the future, as well as Arena red because those colors were specificaly created for 993. Just my opinion, time will tell. I love it !!! ;-)

The Turquoise blue name is sometimes used for cars with non metalic paint, like Edgy01's 997.
This colour is close to maritime blue on 968CS or 964, or riviera blue on 993 if I remember well.
Those colors are not "metallic" paint colors.
Very nice color too. More suited to a coupé or race car I think.

Most of the 964s are Maritime blue which to my eye is slightly more purple than Blue Turquoise and also a little bit brighter. Although I must say that the 964 above looks very much like Blue Turquoise to me.. Very confusing. But like always with Porsche there are exceptions to a rule.. Pop the hood and check the VIN sticker . Great color though . I have to admit, the Audi Nogaro blue (or RS blue), also known as VW Jazz blue is even better looking !

Try and get a VIN on that car to confirm if it is a late 1994-5 car. Then it very well could be one of the first Blue Turquoise cars ever produced. However, it looks a great deal like the Riviera Blue that was introduced with the 993s. This is much more likely. Paint code was S8

Dan:

I think you hit the nail on the head for Rivi Blue. I have a 993 Cab in Rivi Blue and I am showing the following codes from 1993 on:

39E or S8

I think that looks alot like Rivi Blue

Click on the bold headers and you can put in alphabetic order, code order and so on.
