PPI in Shaumburg, IL area
Finally got CFO buy-in for a purchase and will be going to look at a '97 Cab in Shaumburg on Monday. If all looks good and a price can be agreed upon, any suggestions for where to get a PPI in the area?
Also, did a search on Windy City Motorsports, but didn't seem like anyone had dealt with them--has this changed? On the phone they seem nice and low key...
Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I got another recommendation in Bensonville. The shop had no problem with it going to where ever I would like... They are just waiting to install a new clutch (on order) before letting it out.

Fischer Motorsports in Lake Barrington.
Assuming for the moment that you wish to PPI an air-cooled car, do NOT take it to a dealer. Keep in mind the vast majority of dealers spend virtually all of their time servicing P-cars under warranty.
You could also try Midwest Eurosport in Bensenville or Joliet.
Cheers,
Greg

Thanks all for the input! I am thinking that I may try to get the car for a little less and have them not install the clutch, then get a few "while you are in there" things taken care of (belts, etc.). Will see how that goes.

I bought my first air-cooled car from Napleton (85 Targa). I personally like the place, but I would not be inclined to have them PPI an air-cooled car.
Good Luck!! Let us know how it turns out.

I would recommend CPT (Chicago Performance and Tuning) and/or VFC Engineering.
CPT is in Melrose Park and VFC is in the City of Chicago
VFC is great and VERY Fair, they work on a lot of Porsches/Audis/BMWs. They prep a lot of cars for the track and know what they are doing. I have never had a problem with their work and sometimes they even UNDERCHARGE me for custom work...
CPT has a great reputation in the Audi community. Al and his crew are top notch (I used to go there for my Audi). They are just a little too far for me to go for an oil change or other "short" work. Al himself owns a 996TT and has done a good bit of work on Porsches.
Good luck no matter where you choose!

Thanks all! Scheduled an appt with Midwest Eurosports for Thursday am.
Based on the conversations, our agreed upon price is okay--I wanted the price to include tax, so not too far off. The "discount" for not having the clutch replaced by them was too small to take, but I got them to agree to replace the belts and plugs while the engine is out, as well as the SAI check valve.
So, with no major issues from the PPI and no problems with the "while you are in there" items, should be good to go.

Just so you know, Midwest Eurosport in Bensonville is a dirty dump. Great race shop, but I would not take my personal car there.
A better place would be Perfect Power up in Buffalo Grove. Sal is the owner. Great guy. 847-465-8837. He really knows the air cooled P-cars.

Motorworks wouldn't even make my list.
Perfect Power is another option, they are a little north and probably as close as Napelton.
I bought my 993 from Napelton.

Just finished up the PPI with Midwest ES--great guys, and did a good job I think.
The short of it is that there is an oil leak somewhere (of course the ad says doesn't leak oil, and it didn't appear to be dripping). Dealer not willing to negotiate that out, so walked. Someone will probably buy it from afar and not get an inspection done.
The car did look nice though...
