Default Will removing radio affect Immobiliser?

Have recently purchased a '98 Carrera S and the previous owner installed a "killer" stereo system which I hate. All I want to hear is the engine! If I remove the aftermarket head unit, will it affect the Immobiliser? (I sure don't want to make it mad!) Obviously, the car works with the aftermarket radio but what about with no radio? If it would affect it, could I install a low value resistance from the 12v keyed source to ground? Any advice/assistance will be gratefully appreciated.

Same here. No problem swapping head units. Now how about some pics of your recent acquisition.

Thanks, Y'all! This car has Fabspeed, PSS9's, RS bars and front strut bar. Just had it lowered to between RS and ROW, corner balanced and aligned. Will take pics soon and show it off!

Thought I'd add a postscript to this thread. After removing the radio, my IMMOBILIZER started acting weird. Started locking up and the light would blink twice. Finally, by surfing the web, found out that the green wire from the IMMOBILIZER to the DIN frame of the radio was the culprit. If that wire gets grounded, the IMMOBILIZER thinks the radio has been stolen. Sure enough, I checked and I had stupidly connected the terminal of the green wire to the ground wire that should go to the radio. Once I disconnected it, everything went back to normal.

Congratulations! The immobilizer is gettinh to me the #1 most loathed thing on these cars.

Has anybody ever managed to eliminate it?

I'm ready to buy a new DME and harness if I have to, to get rid of the da** thing.

Bill-I, too, hate being the servant of electronics. I've determined that there's so much intertwined with the IMMOBILIZER, it's virtually impossible to eliminate unless you strip the car like a racecar and use MOTEC. That's why they created it...to foil thieves. You can try to improve yours by installing a new IMMOBILIZER unit and re-program if you have your 4 digit code. Good Luck!
