Love hearing what the current pros have to say. I was in the game when rates were 1/3 of what they are now........yet people still bitched and moaned. Even when I was 23 and just opened, it was amazing how someone who could drop $45-60K on a new 911/930 would bitch over a 10% parts markup. Yeah, I ran a lean shop to get established.
As stated, if you find a guy you trust, who cares? On the other hand, I'm thankful I don't have to sub anything out. Mounting those 275-18 tires with a manual changer last week WAS kind of a bitch, though!
$65/hour but requires a 400 mile round trip drive. Worth it if you ask me. My local Porsche dealer charges $85/hour, I think my eight year old knows more about diagnosing/fixing Porsches than they do.
The mechanic is like a cardiologist or your wife's OBGYN. Do you want some guy who graduated from the Hugo Chavez Medical and Torture School. or a Medical School?
...........................
Good analogy! But remember what they call the person who graduates last in their class from Medical School? "Doctor".
