Default Anybody tried "ZDD Plus" Zinc additive in their oil?

Anybody tried "ZDD Plus" (www.zddplus.com) zinc additive in their oil?

I have asked Steve at Rennsport and he has not used this before. Just thought I throw it out there to see if anybody has tried it. Real deal or just a gimmick?

Is supposed to be a concentrated alternative to the GM EOS zinc additive.

No Brad Penn dealers here in Toronto , so will have to stick with Mobil 1 for now.

Thanks.

Seems legit and the best additive solution out there. Also, consider the STP "4 cylinder treatment" (red bottle) which may be at your local auto parts store. That's what I'm running with M-1 'till my next oil change.

Can you get Swepco in Toronto? If not, Red Line seems to be the #3 choice here after Swepco and Brad Penn. At risk of starting an "oil war," I'll start a poll!

Joe,

Just get Mobil 1 V-twin 20w50 synthetic. It's on Steve's list of recommended oils (along with Swepco & Brad Penn) and.... you can find it at Canadian Tire.

Matt, Is the V-twin the ones labelled "Motorcycle Oil" from Cdn Tire?

I will try that next time. I just got the oil changed, but they somehow missed my extra jug of 5W50 in the backseat and now have a 50/50 mix of 5W50 and 15W50 Mobil 1.

Just saw an article on this in Hemming's Sports & Exotic. Those editors seemed to have positive opinion.

Anyone here tried it yet?

I am curious on this as well. The oil threads go on for 1000 pages and people want to kill toddlers by the end but when this additive topic is brought up everyone ignores it. Hmmmmmmm.........

I just changed my oil and added a half a bottle of this:

Redline Engine Break In Additive (ZDDP)

I'm getting better throttle response, at least 10 more mpg, and people tell me my breath is fresher. My car hasn't specifically thanked me yet but I'm hopeful.

I think it was you who said that I should just pick up a few bottles of zinc supplements at Costco and slip a handful of pills down the oil filler neck every month or so.

Without lab testing or at least substantial real life first hand experience with cars putting on over hundreds of thousands of miles the is real benefit is unknown. Any opinions on ZDDP are just that IMHO. Theoretically they should help but the more knowledgeable folks around here seem to recommend using oils with good levels of Zn and P (my interpretation). I have read the large number of threads on oil here and at Pelican and it is mind boggling and just made my head spin. confused:
In the end we each must take our chances and do what we think is best. I tend to trust in what the various Porsche specialist shops use and their is no consensus here either.

John Walker in Seattle just changed my oil and put in Mobil1 15-50 along with a 1/2 bottle of "Comp Cam". According to a post on this list, the Mobile 1 15-50 has 1200 PPM of Phosphorous, and the Mobile 1 V-Twin 20-50 has 1600 PPM.

John mentioned that a full bottle of Comp Cam would be too much.
