Default Moving... help me get this Varioram stuff out of here!

Anyone with a '95 993 dream of the whooshing sound of Varioram kicking in? Want a fun winter project? The previous owner of my car painstakingly assembled the goodies, but I never did the conversion. Take a look and make me an offer... it's gotta go soon!

Varioram Conversion (see also the link in the ad for lots of photos and a parts list)

Thanks.

Calling Bill Verberg . . . will this work with a US spec. '96+ ECU, or would you need the Euro Spec. ECU to work with the '95 OBD-1 cars ???

'96 up already have vram. It's a simple swap for '95s, you would want a new chipto go w/ it.

I believe a US 96+ ECU is what's needed. Jim, if you're out there, would you mind weighing in?

Nope, the vram doesn't care if the trigger is through the '96 up 88pin DME or the earlier 55pin.

you just need a chip for the stock DME that will trigger the resonance flap and vram strategy that you want to use.

Stock '95 just triggered the resonance flap to open or close through pin 1 of the 55pin harness. The flap is open < 3k rpm & >5.5k rpm, closed 3k ><5.5k & throttle > 60*, for only 2 modes of operation

the vram uses a slightly different strategy, w/ 4840 for the vram flaps & 5840 for the resonance flap switching points for a total of 3 modes of operation

the resonance flap can continue to use pin 1 and a different unused pin controls the vram flaps or use the #1 pin to control both

What might a vram off of a 1996 C2 with about 21k miles on it be worth? Since I did the supercharger, I don't need it and I won't ever go back to non-supercharged.

Thanks!!!!!

Bill,

Can the 95 chip be programmed to do this? Guess it's not possible huh? So one would have to get a standalone controller?

The chip itself is a write once affair and can not be rewritten, but all of the 55 pin DME's can accept a new chip written for your application. I have gotten several for use on my cars from Cyntex through Steve Timmins. Last i heard Cyntex was out of business but hoping to start up under new managemment. Don't know the current status.
