Default OT-AAARRGH!

Had a pleasant suprise this morning when I attempted to go to work. My car was not where I had parked it and there was glass everywhere. Due to my super sleuthing skills I was able to deduce that my car was stolen.

I am going to assume that the car is gone, it's a 1996 Maxima so any damage to it will write off the car.

Any recommendations on a DD, I just need basic, reliable transportation. I have 2 pcars and can only afford to do so because my DD was nothing special and low maintenance.

I would love to get a Mini, but maybe something like a civic si would be more practical.

Thanks much!

I have been looking at the Scion Xb to add to the stable. They are cheap, and pretty roomy for a small car.

You've already cited two of the best choices out there. I'm rocking a Corolla, which generally gets me 30 MPG combined. If I didn't need a back seat for the baby, I'd totally be in a 33/41 Smart http://www.smartusa.com/smart-fortwo-passion.aspx

Thanks for the suggestions, the smart car is appealing but I am a little bit leary of the size, I do a lot of highway driving.

Anyone have experience with the Civic si?

I had Civic Si which was a great car. Now drive a Jetta wagon TDI as a d/d. After driving my MIL's Mini Cooper S for a couple days (wow) I know what I would buy....

You track that thing? There's some serious negative camber on those wheels!

I picked up an '05 Mini Cooper S earlier this year and it's great. The gas mileage is quite good, and it's a complete blast to drive.

Before I read the second sentence, I was thinking, how the heck did the immobilizer NOT work. it always works when I want to start the darn car.

Bummer, though. Hope you can find something decent as a DD.

I got an Audi A4 as a DD and like it. Got some turbo lag but only when I'm in automatic mode. Goes away if I switch over to the Tip. It's fun and gets aroung 27mpg.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I might go look at an E36 M3 4 door, heard those cars are pretty reliable.
