Almost over the fence, help me...
I know a lot of you guys hate these posts but I'm very, very close to joining the 993 fold.
I'm looking at a silver 1995 C2 Cab with 62k miles, paint is a 9, interior/top is a 9, runs and drives great, normal options, new tires, maintenance records, everything is stock on it. The car appears to be very well taken care of. It's being sold by a private person and I'm thinking the seller is not going to go any lower than $31,500. First of all, is that a fair price or is it a little high? If it's too high, how much too high? Secondly, I'm struggling with paying that much for this car when it seems there are cars being offered for sale on Rennlist that have mods such as exhaust/shocks/springs/etc for about the same price... Would the above described Cab be worth $35k if it had the suspension done and some other tidbits?
PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY PRICING!
TIA!

Where is the car located, this has a big effect on pricing.
Not everyone wants mods on their car, to some it decreases value.
Has it had a clutch, 60K service, brakes? has it had the top replaced yet or the motors?
If all the heavy stuff has been done, and the car is well taken car of then its not totally out of line.
You can always find the craiglist ones for a few thousand less with no history.

Thanks for the reply.
The car is in Texas.
The top and motors were replaced a few years back.
Recent brake pads but needs 2 new rotors soon.
60k service complete.
Original clutch.
It sounds like you're thinking that $31.5 is paying a premium, if so, how much?

I don't think it's a crazy premium, but be prepared to drop $3-5k the first year for maintenance, suspension upgrades and anything else that might pop up. I don't follow cab pricing too closely, but in six month's time you won't remember the difference between spending $30k and $31k...you'll be smiling too much.

+1, Well said. If you like it, pay to have it thoroughly inspected (PPI) at an independent Porsche shop ($300 - $400). If nothing major crops up, offer $29,500 and take it from there.
For reference, I paid $37,000 for a 34,000-mile '95 coupe in September 2005. It has needed absolutely nothing. Yet I've spent the equivalent of a small country's budget on things I've wanted to refresh.
Owning a 993 is good for your health.

1) Condition
2) Maintenace and records
3) Price
Does that help? In other words, as long as everything else is cool and it's still within your budget, price is the easiest thing to fix (get over). I'd say seller is on the high end of the "fair" range. Your ROI on mods will never be $1 to $1.

It may not be a reasonble comparison, but I bought my 96 Cabrio in March 07, in KY, with 17K miles for $42K. See below for upgrades. The other thought I have is that if you intend on doing an track events, then you will have to get a roll bar, which eliminates any chance of using the rear seats for anything other than small stuff. The coupes handle much better on the track as well. I only AutoX my car and I got my SCCA lic. and rent cars for track events.

I think the car you are describing would be a very good buy around $29k. Priced as is it's an avg buy. Anymore than that and the seller is getting the better end of the deal.
That said, a car which is already modded to YOUR tastes with lower miles could be bought for $35k easy.
Its a great time for you to be getting into a 993. Don't stress and enjoy the search. When the right car comes along you won't have to force pulling the trigger. It'll happen on its own.

Just another opinion, but if everything checks out (PPI w/leakdown/comp test) $31.5K is pretty normal with those miles. People have paid prices up and down from that depending on options/mods and condition.
In my opinoin, this could very well be a $31.5K car. It depends on all of the above.
Have fun with the hunt!

Mine isn't sold, but I've been bouncing it around and if someone offered me what I'd be asking, I'd very likely let her go. It's a 95 C4 Cab with 40k miles, M030, MY02 wheels, Bilsteins, LPMM, black big ovals, and other stuff I'm forgetting... be asking $31k.
I don't think it's out of the ballpark at all if it's the car you want. Since each of these cars are in different states of repair and everyone has their own desires, the way I look at it is you have to be comfortable w/ what you paid. As long as that's the case, and it's in the ballpark for what it's worth, then you're golden.
