Broken tach! What the hell happened???
So I'm driving home from work today (it's Saturday, I know), and I notice that the chrome bezel ring on my tach is a little off. I go to adjust it and the glass on the tach starts to move. I get home, wrestle it out and find this:
What the hell???
I have never pulled it out and I don't believe it's been broken for long (but what do I know?). It's broken pretty much the whole way around but is still attached somewhere around 3 o'clock. I'm guessing that it's a combination of age, weight of the tach, stiff suspension and LA roads that caused this. Kind of a bummer. I guess I'll go to the hobby store and find some good cement and try to glue it back together.
I'd also just like to give a shoutout to VDO who made a plastic tach that costs $446.25 (at least at Pelican). I mean, really, couldn't they have used a metal housing??? Bastardos!!!!

Gonzilla,

And Bart, I appreciate the offer of the locktite. Anthony has graciously offered to send me his tach housing. I'm stoked. If that doesn't work out, maybe I'll take you up on it!

Update 1... THANKS ANTHONY!!!
So Anthony promptly sent out the tach housing and I received it a few days later. It looks exactly like mine, only it isn't broken. To add insult to injury, he wouldn't even take my money for postage!!! What a nice guy! We should all take a lesson from this extra-cool dude!
THANKS ANTHONY!
Pics to come when I transfer the housings (if anyone cares)

Gonzilla, a very similar thing happened to me when I was trying to pull my tach out to replace a bulb. Apparently over time the lip where it meets the body gets weak. I used some JB Weld to reattach mine and it looks good as new (11 years new). From now on I'm removing the gauge to the left and pushing the tach out from behind...

Mike, must have something to do with that shifty dude you bought the car from.
FWIW, I never touched the tach and am quite surprised to see it do that. Car lived in Cali, then AZ and then moved to HI... heat related maybe?
Good to see you got the part to fix it through such generous, unselfish means. Props to Anthony.
It renews my belief that is is undoubtedly the best forum on the net and that the Rennlist spirit lives on.
