Thanks everyone,

I will try to set the Readiness code this weekend

As for the Scanner, just ordered the Actron (thanks Dave) and should have it by next week.

This might be a really stupid question, but where is the plug for the scanner (have never looked for it on the 993TT)

Thanks in advance

Nahh, there are no stupid questions on Rennlist ... although some answers may be more obvious than others.

I doubt the turbo has a different location, but on the NA cars it's on the driver's side of the ... well, it would be a transmission tunnel in front-engine cars .... let's call it the "footwell divider." You'll look at it and go, "why didn't I notice that before?"

Good luck! Hope I wasn't too discouraging in my earlier post. I too would try it once instead of shelling out $550. But I'd still keep my money handy.

I think the socket is within 1m of the steering wheel or something by law.

Regardless, there's a nice DLC finder here: http://www.obdclearinghouse.com/oemdb/ , which says it's in the same place on 2 and 4wd.

Take the car to Steve, owner of New Vernon Coach & Motor Works in New Vernon, NJ (on 202 South of Morristown about 5 miles). He knows how to get it done, and will call Trenton to get you exempted if the drill doesn't work.

A couple of additional comments:

1.) I had the dealer set the readiness codes and they charged my 1.5huors of labor, about $250 here in upstate NY.
2.) You should be able find a scanner at local Sears, Pep boys, etc. save $ on shippping.
3.) Invest in a battery tender/trickle charger so you can avoid this in the future. I have a model with auto-shut off which is nice.
4.) I have heard that there is a device, not sure of the name, that you plug into the cig lighter that will keep a minimal charge in the system if you have to disconnect the battery when doing repairs. Has anyone else heard of this?

Good Luck!

Thanks

As for the trickle charger, I do have one but my car was in storage last year because of construction work that was being done on my house (storage facility did not have an outlet).

I currently use the charger everytime the car is in the garage

If it doesn't work I will try some of the places people have suggested
