Default Rear Control Arm Q

Hey all,

While installing my PSS10's this weekend I found my lower rear control arms had the "boots" completely split on both sides. Are there any cheaper alternatives to buying the entire arm from Porsche ($220 a piece from my source...sunset was $233)? Is this something that needs to be replaced now or will I not notice anything? I don't want to spend all this time and money on a great suspension setup and then have a worn out part take away from my performance.

Thoughts please?

Thanks!

Adam,
Since the arms are key to your rear alignment, I would replace both at this point. With split boots, the joints will only degrade faster.

I've only seen these as complete arms.

Thanks for the quick reply Andreas!

I had a feeling this would be the case. As our cars age, it certainly would be helpful if someone had the ability to "rebuild" these arms as there are three on each side. That could get pretty expensive per side if you have to do all three!

This seems pretty cheap for rear lower control arms. Or, are these rear toe links you are referring to?

My terminology might be incorrect. It's the bottom arm that attaches to the bottom shock/hub mount. Part number I believe is 993 331 04301. Is it called a trailing arm, control arm, or as you mentioned toe links. There are three of them, two top and one bottom that hold the wheel/hub assembly. Please, educate me!

I just replaced my rear lower control arms (both sides). Bought them from Sunset for $233.00 each. You definitely do not want to gamble with them: if one fails, results can be pretty catastrophic.
