Default OT: Tamiya R/C 993 GT2

I recently bought this Tamiya Taisan Starcard R/C car on EBay, it's one that Tamiya produced back in 1996 and has since been discontinued. This car came with a clear unpainted body with the taller style spoiler and complete decal sheet. I found another body about a month before, and picked that one up. Now I can't quite decide what to do with them. These are some images I borrowed of other modeler's cars on tamiyaclub.com. Now someone here must have one or more of these in their collection? Let's see them.

The blue, yellow, and two black bodies look great! 1996, is that on the TA02 chassis or TA03? I was really into that stuff back then, still have a TA02 (fully modded) in the storage shed somewhere along with a Kyosho from the same era. Both electric road cars that I used to track. On the Tamiya I had a 993 body from time to time, it was aftermarket, but very nice.

Please, kill this thread before you get me back into a hobby I forgot about, lol. I also have a few gas cars around.

Back then, before everyone was on ebay and craigslist, I knew some folks that would buy all this crap brand new and find out that they didn't want it and sell it cheap, real cheap.... to me!

Funny, I still race those little 1/10th cars and love it.

+1, lol. I unloaded a small fortune on R/C cars many years ago and these threads always make me want to dig them out of the closet again or buy a new one. I still have a small one that I drive on the kitchen floor.

I like the yellow body the best from those pictures. White might be cool also if all the black trim etc. is done properly but that goes for any color, makes it more realistic.

The car that I got came with the TA02 shaft driven all wheel. I think the TA03s were belt driven. At any rate, I thought I needed something in my collection that I can run around the office. I'll probably do one of the bodies in the stock racing and the second in a street version. The silver one looks a bit odd with the surgically altered rear end with the bolt on fender flares.

Ok don't shoot me. I couldn't find any 993 bodies when I building my RC car. So I had to settle with the GT3 MKI. It's my show body and I use the Alfa Body for drive.

Does anyone else make a 993 rc car besides the one in the original post?
seems they are a bit hard to find!

I've got a new in box PIAA 993 GT2 (the belt drive one) plus a used PIAA 993. Fully intending to build the new one at some point. Mind you I have two Pocher 993 models that I'm also fully intending to build at some point... Come to think of it I also have a 1/12th 935 RC car that Tamiya re-released that I'm fully intending to build... I think I see a bit of a theme! To get to the point, you can find these and if you want to try your luck with a used one then the bodies do come up fairly regularly. Decals are harder to come by but you may get them as part of the body kit or, again, they do come up fairly regularly. New ones gor for about £250 to £300 and second hand can be had for £70 to £100. It was the picture of the yellow plain GT2 that got me on the slippery slope in the first place! One nice extra bit of info is that you can get a really cool GT1 Le mans style car body from Tamiya that fits the chassis used in these models. Funnily enough I have one of those that I'm fully intending to build...

I have 3 lexan 993 bodies waiting to be painted and put onto my RS4 chassis - last time I took it out the car kept pulling to left rather dramatically!! Maybe needs an alignment and corner balance? Anyone know of a good shop in the East Bay Area??

Keep an eye out on ebay - the lexan bodies come up occassionally. Even more rare are the decals to go with them (I have a sheet of those somewhere too!)
