20 MPG all day long...city/highway

I exercised my patience while running this experiment of very light foot on highway for 2 weeks.
I deliberately drove my 993 and Golf 1.6 at 50 mph and got 32.8 mpg on the 993 and
42.5 mpg on Golf 1.6. Numbers were quite good, but I have run out of my patience.
I can never drive this way again.

Worst tank was 16 mpg in "spirited" driving around the local twisties. The Best tank was 27 mpg on a road trip of mostly highway miles. Normal is about 21-22 mpg in mixed driving.

Funny thing. Any other car I've owned I could have told you immediately. For the 993 I've never bothered to check. If it needs filling up I fill it up. I enjoy the drive so much I never thought to count the cost. Really and that's the truth.

Looks like I'm right on par with others. 20mpg or just a tick under on my DD with 50% stoplights and freeway. I haven't taken a trip in it in a long while, but I know if I just drive two or three extra days on a given tank with extra freeway (like going down to my folks who are about 45 miles away), the MPG climbs to 22-24. I could imagine a steady trip of all hwy would yield 25+

I just drove my new '96 C2 home from Salt Lake City and got 24 m.p.g.(U.S.) at a steady 81 mph.
This is my first Porsche, and I was very happy with this number.

I rarely fill mine past 1/2 unless I'm planning an extended highway drive but can tell you with certainty I'm getting less than 20mpg based on full time spirited driving which is exactly what these cars like...to be light and well exercised! I paid $4.67/gallon for Chevron 91 not two hours ago in Del Mar, CA. It's really starting to sting....but I'm just not capable of balloon footing around "off song" so to speak.
