What does 100k on the clock do to the value?

What does 100k on the clock do to the value?
In general, in this wacky 993 world, how does the stigma of a 100k-plus odometer reading affect the value of one of these things? Lets say the car ('96 or newer C2 or C2S, the cars on my radar) is very nice with documented ownership history, zero stories and a very good maintenance record.

I used to think it meant a lot. Now I think it's a disjuncture in the curve, but not a huge one. Really, no one who would consider a 90k mile car wouldn't even look at a 110k mile car. Anything over 70k miles has to be pretty nice to break the $30k barrier (narrow body of course). And smart money would absolutely buy a well maintained (clutch, brakes, suspension) 100k car over a ratty, neglected 70k car for similar price.
The cost of parts and labor on these cars is way too high to fall in love and think, "I'll just fix stuff when it breaks." Ask me how I know. A couple of thousand bucks either way on initial purchase price is nothing compared to major maintenance items at a specialty shop.
For a C2S, the curve is a lot steeper, but there are so few of them out there with high miles on them, that someone who lusts for the fat *** but can't afford $50k+ will go for it.

You mean that for C2S shoppers, they (the buyers) buyers start falling off quicker at 100k miles than those looking at more plentiful n/b cars?

That said, if I had a high mileage C2S, I'd price it too high and wait for the one guy who really wants it to come to me.

I'm just saying it's less linear. As other threads have illustrated, many people will pay top dollar for exactly the right C2S. The only sales prices I've seen for high mileage "driver" S cars are C4Ss, and their value seems to fall off precipitously at higher mileages. Again, there just aren't a lot of data points.

As long as there are cars out there with fewer miles, a car with over 100k miles will be worth less unless it was a highly desired model, Turbo, widebody etc. On the flip side a well documented, well maintained car might be attractive to a buyer especially if the major maintenance issues have been taken care of and it had never been in an accident. If I were looking at a car with 100k on it, I'd feel bad that I wasn't the owner to enjoy that car for the first 100k of its life.

For me it's only a car. I didn't purchase it because they only sold 759 of them in the US in 1997 although that is nice to know. But I purchased it to drive and enjoy. I bought the car with 34K miles on it and have owned it for 5yrs. I have a little over 61K and have enjoyed every mile. I always wanted the C2S because my previous car was a 1985 Factory turbo-look Widebody Carrera.

All those are true but it's still only a car. I bought the 993 to drive and enjoy it not to worship it.

Low mileage is a bonus. It will help you resale the car. But the most important is the condition of the car: how it was maintained and driven.
There are a lot of suspiciously low mileage cars out there, that look a lot worse than mine. A speedometer is cheap to replace nowadays......

Looks like you do the same with your NC35. If it is ever for sale you know who to call

What would my C2C be worth if the steering wheel was on the wrong side?
Mileage works out to about 22300 miles. Full history, no stories. Zennith and other stuff, sports seats etc.
Just curious. Cars are not selling here at all, especially high end cars.
I think it's the recession the media keep wanking on about.

Yeah, it IS just a car.
I always take a step back to the two RS Americas and challenge ANYONE to look at the 136K miler with the 42K wrecked racer's odo installed and come within 50% of its true mileage.
Mechanical stuff can be easily fixed.........
