Default Resistors for Airbag removal

Anyone have a spare resistor for the airbag removal? 3.9 ohm I believe.

I can only find them in a set of 100.

IIRC, Gert recommended a 2.7 ohm 1/4 watt to me. I actually used a 2.8 ohm 1/2 watt and it has worked well so far.

If you can't find a 3.3ohm, you can also use 3x 10ohm's in parallell.

I'm about to go downstairs and do this mod, and I have a spare 3.3ohm, and a package of 4x10ohm's.

I can mail you the leftovers for the cost of postage.

Thanks, but I would prefer not make this more complicated by putting resistors in parallel.

I am not sure about what Gert recommends, but I have the Porsche factory airbag tool and the resistor in it is Orange, White, Gold. That's 3.9 ohm.

It seems my memory has failed me a bit. I checked my old post and apparently I used a 2.7 ohm / 1 watt. A 2.8 ohm / 1/2 watt was what Gert recommended to me. You are probably correct about the testing tool, but I haven't used one, so can't confirm. I just know what was recommended, and what has worked for me. ViperBob also suggests that a 2.8 ohm works for the passenger airbag to, in THIS THREAD. Best of luck !

I just did the mod on my 968 (same as 993) and simply plugged the 3.3ohm resistor into the orange BMW airbag plug. (yes, we have BMW parts bin parts in our cars!) Tested it and it works awesome.

I still have the one 3.3ohm resistor left over, so if anyone want it, just let me know and I'll mail it - don't worry about postage i think i have enough stamps. lol.

What is your reasoning for disabling the air bag(s)? Track use? Old airbags?

When I installed my Sparco wheel, I tried using a 2.9 ohm resistor but the airbag light would still come on...

If you install a non-airbag steering wheel, the "!" warning light will light up on the dash, unless you deactivate or fool the airbag check sensor.

I went from the stock airbag wheel to the 3spoke 968CS/930S wheel.

BTW, the 3.3ohm is spoken for.

Did you switch to a 3+ohm and it worked okay?

It's possible that if you didn't do the process EXACTLY as below, it might trip the airbag light prematurely/inadvertantly, and you'll have to get it reset with the Bosch Hammer tool.

1: Disconnect the battery (and do NOT reconnect until done!)
2: Wait approx 20min

3: remove the wheel
4: install resistor (ensuring 100% contact)
5: install new wheel

6: Reconnect battery
7: Turn key to 1st detent and check for airbag light to go on and go out.

I followed the procedure but I think the 2.9 ohm just didn't do the trick. I also tried measuring the resistance on the airbag detonator but the readings were inconsistent so I decided to follow the instructions I found here on RL and go with the 2.9 ohm resistor.
I ended up re-connecting the OEM detonator piece and hiding it inside the console.
I know it's a not a good thing to have "explosives" stuffed inside the console so I'm gonna order the $30 resistor and install that instead.

To whoever hijacked my thread and took the resistor: THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

I was looking for a resistor and now somebody else took it based my thread!

Who hi-jacked your thread? Aren't we discussing airbag lights and resistors here? I don't see any off topic posts here so whats all the fuss about?

If you need one of those 3.3 ohm resistors, just visit your local Radio Shack store, they should have plenty of them and at $0.99 can't really call them expensive either.
Edit: Link to wrong part removed. (Thanks to Rich for clearing it up!)

And no, I didn't buy that resistor from Rich!

When that 2.9 ohm resistor didn't work, I decided to get the $30 gizmo from airbagonoff.com as it seems it works perfectly...
