Default beginers advice

Hi,

I have just bought a 97 993 c2s. It needs new rear tyres, I'm going to replace the pzero rosso's with the same again. Should I look at another set?
What is the best oil to use? I've been told to only use Castrol Edge 10w 60? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Tires: Pzero Rossos are an excellent tire. When it comes time to do all four, you may consider several other excellent, first line tires.

Oil: Most folks here are using Mobil1 15W-50, but there are a few HUGE threads on other possibilities. You don't mention your climate or mileage. I don't recall Castrol Edge, or 10w-60 ever being mentioned on this forum.

Congratulations on your fine new car. Pictures?

Thanks. No pic's yet but I'll get some. I'm from Ireland so the weather has no real extremes -2 or 3 at coldest and 25 at the hottest. The car has 107k miles but had a lot of work done before I got it. Seals etc. There are no oil leaks as far as I can see. It uses about a quart and a half of oil every thousand miles, is this normal? The oil I use is here http://www.castrol.com/castrol/produ...tentId=7027056

Your oil consumption seems to be a bit on the high side... no cause for alarm, as Porsche would probably say "it is within spec". But most of us use quite a bit less than that. As far as your choice of oil, I'll defer to the experts. This is a very hotly debated subject, and while i'm an old-timer, I'm a doofus when it comes to oils. Do a search for a thread with a topic of "Mobil one" or "Mobil 1" (I forget which), grab a beer or two, and settle in for a lot of reading.

Lots and lots of tire threads here on RL. Especially in the 993 forum. The most popular of late seems to be the Sumitomo HTR Z III. Here's a couple of reviews if interested.

allffy,

I have always run the P-Zero Rosso's on my car, they are indeed great for traction, and look pretty cool when they are new (red P-Zero logo and all), but as ca993twin mentioned when the time comes for all 4 you may want to consider other choices. I've found that the P-Zeros like to wear fast, especially the rears, and I'm almost certain its not driving habits..
