A/C evaporator replacement

A/C evaporator replacement
Went to get the freon in my system refilled, which they did at vortex in Tampa, they also put a green dye in it, to indicate any leaks, it blew cold for them, when I picked it up next day only warm air and I see the green dye on the ground that has come out of the A/C drain.
So it's looking like I need a new evaporator, anyone had this done? if so what did it run? and does the air blow cold now? also should I use an aftermarket evaporator?

Do a search on evaporator replacement. I just had it done and used Griffith's parts. They provide high quality parts that are certainly an upgrade to stock parts. Here is a link: http://www.griffiths.com/porsche. I would estimate the replacement parts (evaporator, expansion valve, dryer and new hoses) cost around $800.00 and I spent about the same for installation. I was not totally pleased with the coolness of the air so I am now having the climate control unit rebuilt. Will be posting the news after installing the rebuilt CCU sometime next week.

Very time consuming task for a DIY... Dealer wanted 1800 (about 4 years back) to do it. I got the parts from http://www.griffiths.com/ and did it myself... this was for my 964.
I had to remove the gas tank, and a lot of things to get to the $@%$ evaporator. Not a task I would want to do again... but it can be done over a weekend...

You'll spend about $600 on parts (there are some REALLY cheap items out there that do NOT last). The Behr brand and Kuehl are generally all I use when working on ACs. Also, do NOT forget to change the drier. This needs to be done anytime the AC system goes south.
Labor times will be in the 5-7 hour range. Book time is 12 hours IIRC.

Sean,
From what I learned with my 993, it doesn't want too much pressure in the servicing of its freon more than 16 psi. If Vortex serviced it higher than that, it will work for a few days then discharge it through one of the o rings of the rigid lines on the left side front wheel well as they connect on the condenser.
Here's a good read. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ight=condenser
