In Europe, plates are blacked for 2 reasons
1 - risk of theft (if somebody is just looking for a car like yours, he knows where to go)
2 - against the Police - a lot of modifications are not legal, don't put your address on the net...
not sure but need to check the responsibility of the website in case of theft (if the pictures are not from the owner)

I'll give out my social sec # to most companies I deal with without blinking an eye.

People who want to sell on the net post pictures for a better sale. Since early 2000, second-hand car dealers with a small inventory, brokered private car sellers by copying their pictures and posting them in local magazines, th net, or other local media support, with a higher price, without the sellers knowing.
Some car brokers even posted pictures in their showroom.
The original owner of the car then, had his car advertised everywhere without his consent.
And when you do a search today and find a car advertised on tens of sites, you would think that this car is a bit hard to sell....so not worth the price.
This practice is global today unfortunately.
Brokers still benefit from people unfamiliar with search engines, internet tricks, etc. (remember here on rennlist 964 ignition wire set bought from Canadian site for $109, sold on rl for $250)
Worse is in real estate.

Of course, this stuff still happens by people spotting your car in "real life" but as usual that internet thing makes it easier to find what you need.
I'd blank my plate.

was that of Metro NY Region? I didn't think it would be that specific.
It seems that our regional presidents should know how to apply. I may
be able to check this weekend.

i got no problem with posting my plate either. here's a pic of my old car and the plate. i like the american flag and the "one nation under god" tag line on the bottom. when i get my new car, i'll register that plate to the car.

Who needs a damn DMV worker?
(You can have my address, too. You'll have to get past my Doberman, a Mossberg shotgun, a Glock .45, be able to figure out the kill switch to the race car and not stall the racing clutch. Chances are good that the battery is dead, so bring a hot shot. Keys are under behind the RF tire.)

If you find out, let me know. I'd like to do something different with the plate, but can't think of a vanity plate I like.
