So, the friend to whom I sold my old cab is having problems with the heat & a/c in the car. He's not that internet savvy, so I told him I'd help him get through this problem. Here's a description of the problem...

"The heat and A/C work intermittently. In colder weather at low temperatures the heat functions for about 10 minutes and then shuts off. It also tends to shut off in 4th gear and beyond. The blowers function fine. I was told by a good mechanic that it needs a new climate control unit and they are currently out of stock."

Any ideas on alternative diagnoses here (sensors, resistors, relays, etc)? Does it sound like the climate control unit is done. If so, any leads on finding one (no longer made and D/C auto is out of stock). Thanks guys.

You should check Porsche 964 Heat & Vent Servos and Repairing Climate Control Unit in this web site:
http://www.porsche964.co.uk/ in the technical section. Quite similar to the 993.

I have one that's less than 3 years old purchased from the dealer. Works perfectly. PM if your friend is interested. I was going to list it here until I saw your thread.
