Default What's The Snorkel Thing In The Oil Tank?

What is the purpose of the plastic accordian snorkel that's under the oil tank cap? Can I leave it out?

The "snorkel" pulls out so that you can easily add oil without spilling, in case you have no funnel.

No it doesn't! It develops sneaky, hard to notice tears so you can leak more oil onto your engine than you would've without it! Inspect your 10+ year old snorkel before using it.

+2. There are threads on this, and with my first oil change, I was greeted with 5(?) quarts all over the heat exchanger...good times! Then, I went to Pep Boys and bought a good ol' Blitz 05090. Best $2 you'll ever spend on your P-car:

Brings the oil opening right up to the edge of the body and is very stable in place. Stays in the car at all times. Still ave no plans to replace the lame snorkel. Remember- you still have to pour s-l-o-w-l-y!
