Default Wisdom for front PS2's for C4S

My C4S is at ROW-5mm height. I'd like to get a set of PS2's. I have stock turbo twist 8" and 10" rims.

- should I be able to handle the 295s easily?

-tire rack says the PS2 225/30s get 829 revs/mile, while the 235/30s get 819 revs/mile. The original PS 225/40s are 821 revs/mile, and 285/30s are 832 revs/mile. The PS2 295/30s also get 832 revs/mile (?). Would having front/back ratio close to stock but a bit higher than stock be bad? Is there anything wrong with having the front/rear ratio closer to one than stock, ie when using the PS2 225/30?

- is it recommended to go with stock 225/40s up front, or go to 235/40s, which have an N2 stamp of approval similar to the rears?

Paul, 235/40 up front and 295/30 out back will work. You need to keep the ratio between front and rear >3%, that combination works fine. PM me your email and I'll send you the .xls's

Thanks FLYT993, so if I need to keep the ratio >3%, the PS2 235s actually would be better than the PS2 225s? What is the max difference that you need to keep?

PM sent.

Perhaps I'm ignorant, but aren't you comparing tire width, when the critical number here is the profile (i.e., the 30 vs. 35)?

Oh, and I'm running 295's in the back with 235's in front with no issues.

Randy1,

yes, the 225 and 235 numbers are width, in mm, but both tires I'm comparing are 30 aspect ratio. That means the sidewall is, for example 225*0.30 = 67.5 mm. This times two, plus the nominal tire diameter (18" in this case) gives the overall tire diameter. The point being that for the same aspect ratio, as the width increases, so does the height.

Out of curiousity, what 235s are you running in front? Are you lowered?

I'm using RE050A's all around, which are a damn sight better than the PZeros I started with. Road noise, apparent longevity, safety in the wet stuff, you name it.

996Carrera,

thank-you, that's a validation I am looking for. Are you lowered at all?

I am at ROW-5mm, and wondering if it will still fit.

On my 993S I used PS2 235F/295R. Lowered to RoW. Nice balanced handling combination. No issues.

Forgot this question; yes, I'm lowered. I'm not sure at what height, however. This won't do you any good, but there's about an index finger's height between the well and the edge of the tire...

My Previous C4S was lowered to almost RS ride height and I ran 235/295s without any problem. I used wider wheels than stock, but you shouldn't have any issues using the stock wheels if you can get them on the rim width.

With the 4s what is important is keeping the front and rear rotation similar. Someone mentioned that the difference needed to be less than 3% so as not to mess with the AWD system.

225/285 or 235/295 are good combos.

Enjoy,

swftiii, good to hear. You were lower than I am, so I should be A-OK. My order for 235F/295R went in earlier today!

thanks all for your data points!
