Can the SAI system be removed?

Something that the_other_eric mentioned in his turbocharging post is that he removed the SAI system from his car, as he is no longer running cats.
Well, for those of us who also are no longer running cats, and who do not have to have our cars emissions tested, I'm curious whether it also is possible to remove the SAI system (I'm pulling my motor soon for a clutch job -- hence the good timing). Currently I have cat bypasses, so the SAI system is no longer necessary.
I wonder: will removing the SAI stuff 1) throw a CEL; 2) screw up how the car runs; 3) have any costs or benefits?
Anyone?

Based on what I know about the system your answers are as follows:
1. Yes, it will throw a CEL unless you've already disabled it.
2. No, it will make no difference in how the car runs (air is injected downstream of exhaust valves)
3. The "cost" will be felt when trying to resell the car - otherwise no cost or benefit
