Default Just got the new 993 home!

I just brought my new 993 home! It was a very enjoyable 1900 mile drive from Phoenix to Edmonton. My father made the journey with me and did a wonderful job of navigating. I am glad to say that the car ran flawlessly. I know I got about 24-25 mpg on at least a few tanks which I was very pleased with since I stayed at around 80 mph and averaged about 60 mph with stops. My father is 68 and somewhat cautious so I kept the speed down except for a few short bursts and have no tickets thankfully.

This is my first Porsche so I was not sure what the car would be like on a long journey. Surprisingly it is quite comfortable for 2 if you pack lightly. The suspension is definitely soft enough for all roads (Salt Lake's in town roads were horrible) and quite happy with any type of driving but it was obvious that the car preferred to run hard and fast. It's only done 3000 miles in the last 5 years so a few tanks of gas and some fuel system cleaner made a nice difference. My only complaints, and they are few, is that it could use the lumbar supports and the steering wheel is a little thin. For performance driving a little more interior engine noise and a stiffer suspension would nice upgrades. Fortunately I missed the snow storm that hit southern Alberta as the BF Goodrich G Force tires would not have faired well. I think it is the first time this car has seen snow and the windshield wash started to freeze on the window as it was last filled down south. Customs was a 2:20 hour delay but there were no problems thankfully. I am sure I will have a dozen more posts with questions now that I have spent some time with the car. Can't wait for summer!

ps love the chestnut interior!

Hey Matt, glad to hear you made it safe and sound. Sounds like one of those trips to cherish. That is a great color combo, I remember when you posted about finding it, very distinctive compared to the usual silver and black. They are a great long distance car as you found out. Best of luck with it and keep us posted on the slippery slope and if you need help spending your money we are happy to oblige!

Matt;

Welcome back to Edmonton. Beautiful 993 you have there, congrats. I will keep an I out on the road for you. I brought my 95 Cabrio back from California last spring and was lucky enough to avoid the snow. I drove north from Los Angeles on the I5 up to Vancouver and then through the Rockies. I hope summer will be here soon.

Cheers
Chris

Hey I live in Edmonton which has poor roads too! Actually we made a wrong turn and ended up in South Salt Lake which had the worst stretch of road. Freeways were good but busier and faster than I am used to!

Thanks guys. I'll post some better pics once it warms up. It's -11C and blowing snow and the car is under cover for a little while longer! I did manage to wash to bugs, grime and road oil off of it first thankfully.
