Went ot start my car for the first time today after spring. Everything was fine except for a ticking noise that sounds like it's coming from the lower part of the engine. I'm suspecting a lifter, and wanted to know if it's safe to drive the car for a little bit at low rpm's to see if it takes care of itself. Any other thing I should look for?
Hydraulic lifters take a few miles drive to bleed out. My boxster is particularly prone to ticking after it sits for a week or two, and takes 50-100 miles to quiet down. I can't imagine driving with it (if it's a lifter) will cause harm--but I only play a car doctor on TV.
