+1, my car is at 2750+/- w/ a DAS, AC, PS, race seats, lightened bumper reinforcements, 2nd oil cooler, RS brakes, 996 wheels/MPSC
w/o carpets or pads, cat, engine compartment pad

next up for the chopping block rear interior pads and upholstery

Bill, do you mind sharing what you did to lighten the bumper reinforcements and how much weight you shed? Did you simply fab lighter reinforcements?

My friend Kurt M (those who visit the racing forum will recognize the name) recommended using just a harness bar. I'll tempt fate.
Late to the party. Although I feel much better with a roll bar as opposed to a harness bar, I am of the opinion that 911's are remarkably stout vehicles. I have seen quite a few rollovers on the track that were sans rollbars and have always marveled at how intact the passenger areas remained.

Now that you mention, I remember seeing pics. I had an idea to fab new bars out of chromoly but don't know how worthwhile of an idea that would be. Does anyone know the weight of the bars?

The only thing I worry about is side intrusion from getting t-boned.

Also, I know it's a trade off, but running a 6-pt cage improves chassis stiffness. If you're running sticky tires, good suspension, reducing twist in the car is probably worth 100lbs, no?

Bill - I know you've done it a million times, but can you repost pics of your swisscheese impact bumpers? I'm going to embark on doing the same thing. Thx .

Agreed on all counts. For DE's, though, the chances of getting T-boned are very, very slim. Racing is a whole 'nother ball o' wax.

Not exactly. But for comparison, compressor, condenser, drier, all hoses and hardware, I think I got about 60 lbs out of my 82SC. That might give you some frame of reference.

Last DE I did a coupple weeks ago was a long day in the heat. I ran the AC on the way home and it didn't blow as cold as it once did, I think it's time for a recharge. I have taken a healthy amount of weight out of the car and I like the results. I am adding a DAS bar soon and would like to counter it with some further weight loss methods, most likely AC will stay unless car becomes no street at all.
I agree working on driving skill is most important, as my skills now are upper-intermediate I would like to further improve and maximize potential. After doing a lot of indoor karting, my 993 feels like a school bus.
