When I first bought my car - the PPO had installed H & R springs and left stock shocks on. It didnt ride well, floated around alot, and didnt handle well. 4 Bilsteins later - im a happy man.

IIRC, I had replaced my stock boingers at around 80K miles. The struts were dead! I mean zero pressure after you collapsed them by hand ...and not even difficult to do that! Imagine how ineffective said shock was damping body motion on a corner of a 3000lb car (actually, I didn't have to imagine; the ride sucked). Compound this ineffectual damping with an even shorter spring and stiffer spring rate and you've got a recipe for crap handling and and unsettled ride, especially around a corner carrying speed and you encounter a dip. Oh, and FWIW, I've heard others having weak/collapsed dampers at half the mileage I replaced mine ...apparently not built for longevity.
