Talking Newbie in North NJ, A proper impulse? (Long)

This isn't like me. I've been researching 993s for nearly a year and have been ready to buy for nearly 3 months. And last week I just bought a Black 1995 993 C2 with 69m miles on EBay!!! Sight unseen!!

I do research so that I recognize an opportunity when it arises, right? And then I go and act on an impulse. I feel (hope) this was a good impulse...

A little background. With a budget of $35m to $37m I was looking for a pseudo-daily driver to replace my Audi A4 and motorcycle thrills (that's another story, search me out on advrider.com). I'll have another vehicle for bad snow and rain (pick-up truck). I want to do rallies, track days, and just drive it; all of those things racking up the miles. The choice was 996 or 993, and then down to 993 pre- or post- varioram and SAI. With much advice and help from the guys at High Marques Motorcars in Morristown and plenty of research from all of you here on Rennlist, I decided a 95 car would be best for me. I can't say enough about those HM guys. I just wish they had seen a car for me earlier.

Anyway, the car is pictured below. Only 2000 miles prior to my purchase it had the following done to it; LWF and new clutch, new steering rack and tie rods, AC evaporator core and it has Bilstein shocks and HR Springs, brakes and rotors. Won the auction at only $30m.

It needs some freshening up on the drivers seat bolster and drivers carpet (probably from some track usage) and there are a few chips up front and a little paint crack on the back bumper, but no plastic creasing.

Attended my first PCA meeting last night and I plan to be an active rennlister because these forums, with real-world experience, provide valuable information. Looking forward to keeping this car and being part of the community for a long time!!

Pics please!!

Mmmm, Gemballa wing and side skirts... I was looking for a stock car in any other color than black.... But, I have to admit, I'm sold and this car looks great with the shine highlighting the curves.

RS Splitters coming soon!

Do you feel the rear bumper needs some kind of skirt? I feel it looks fine as it is.

Bat Phone!! Who wants it? Seriously! Let's trade for your console, ashtray and other necessary pieces. Black or Grey preferred. There's a nick/tear on the right side about the size of a dime, but all of the leather is there for a quick repair.

You actually have a gold mine in that batphone console! Just ask LA Dismantlers. They just had one on ebay for 2k

Beautiful car, congrats on the purchase!

Thanks for pointing that out, ilko. Greek Easter is that Sunday. I'm going to try to make the meet-up at 8am to meet everyone, but certainly can't make the drive.

Did you get that in Englewood? If so, on an emergency stop driving from Maine to Texas I did some business with them and was very impressed with their thoroughness and attitude-first rate in my 1 1/2 days in the waiting room. They had some really nice cars on the lot and I almost left mine for another.

It looks great-best of driving.

Wow- I'm not a black fan either, but great buy! Those are the big ticket service items, esp. the LWF!! Even has 18" wheels. Double check that the front brace is there, but I expect this consciencious owner took care of that. There doesn't seem to be much to "do" other than drive and polish, but suck it up and still get a "post" PI and see if there's anything left. I haven't seen a car that well prepared in a while.

With the money you saved, keep your eyes open for used seat(s) or contact Autos International or World Upholstry for new hides and probably seat foam "while you're in there." Your local auto upholstry guy can put it together. Then that car will be like new...congrats!

Picked up from Princeton Porsche. They are great guys as well and are standing behind the vehicle 100%. Their service is top notch and the GM Alex even took me for a ride in my car and showed me a hint of what it could do. Whoa, I have a lot to learn!

TAI2, I sent you a PM earlier about some of the projects you plan on doing. And I'm already talking to ddidit. His seats look great! Just checking out a few options first.

Those are solid spoke 18s. I may be interested in trading for something else lighter, maybe even 17's, but not Cups.

Someone on the NNJR boards is selling hollow spoke 18's. If thats the PCA club you joined (mine as well) take a look.

fnckr, I'm in North Caldwell. Have you decided who will be servicing the car? I just started going to Powertech in Rockaway. They are very thorough and Mike Daino's a great guy.

I may want your 18s when you take them off. I have reproduction 17 turbo twists.

So, I take it from the lack of comments that it was a proper impulse... Or are you all just being nice? Anybody know this car?

H2NO I'm not the biggest fan of twists unless it's for a practical purpose like the light weight in the Hollow Spokes. If going to 17s I'd prefer something in a "lace" look, unless they made hollow twist 17s...

Princeton P has a good reputation and Alex supports a bunch of PCA regions' events

Terrific looking car, too. !!
