Default FS: custom short-ratio, AWD gear box (G50/32)

This is the last mod I'll be parting out of my car before it goes up for sale. I'm very reluctantly selling my box with core exchange for another AWD box in equally good working order.

Background:
For those of you who've been on RL for a while, the box was built for Glen who then sold it to Phil. I bought Phil's C4S and hence, the box ended up in my possession. Below is the most complete information I have on the box from the conversations I've had with Glen, Phil and various other parties:

Custom built with Motorsport syncros (all steel, I believe) and LSD. Ratios as follows:

1st gear (ratios unavailable but reaches speed of ~50mi/hr @ 6700) Most likely G50/32 RSCS
2nd gear 2.048 (stock US G50/20)
3rd gear 1.56 (stock Euro G50/21)
4th gear 1.241 (RSCS G50/32)
5th gear 1.031 (RSCS G50/32)
6th gear 0.857 (custom, same as Leland Pate's)

The box is in perfect working order, though I am unsure how much life is left on the LSD. I will gladly have a local indie drive it and provide a review (as close as you can get to a PPI) and I'm sure I can convince another RLer or two who are experienced drivers/techs to provide their comments.

I prefer to sell in the NW but I will ship to other parts of the US and Canada at the buyer's expense. The RL price is $3,800 with core for another AWD box in equally good condition.

Please PM me if you're interested.

Oooooo man...........you're killin' me! I just so happen to have a awd 4S box in my car that would love to be swapped with yours
No way with a big home addition about to commence that she'll not see 4K slide out the door.

Killing me too... I just spent this and more on wheels and DACH x-pipe sport cat (sorry Chris)... if only I had known - I guess timing is everything.

Question: how can you get 7,200 rpms... I thought redline was 6,500 rpms in our cars?

Chris...I guess you better do another GB.

Pegasis: Thanks for the heads up. No magic, just a mistake. Redline is actually 6,700.

I was ...........well serious but joking (make sense?) I wouldn't think of holding up your sale. Would love a re-geared box, but seriously would need a HUGE GB to make it happen. DACH's been very popular lately, since putting up my little web site, seems there all sorts of renewed interest.

I hear ya. These things don't come up FS every day but you've got to prioritize. I hate having to part and sell my car, especially since it came out of the body shop last week looking incredible after a full respray but it has to go.

Congrats on the new website. You do have the best product out there IMO. I recently took a ride in Hans' car with your sport cats and my old RSRs. It's a fantastic setup for street and you can bet that I'll be PMing you about them in a year or so once I'm back in the 993 fold.

FWIW, the G50/32 is a gearbox for 2WD cars. The G64 is for AWD. The 1st gear in a /32 box is 3.154 (stock /20 is 3.818). Typo in 6th gear, it's 0.828. The /32 has 2nd at 2.000 and 3rd at 1.522. The G50/32 is a great gearset for track use - I just put one in my track car.

Short ratio gears are also nice for the street. My 993 was re-geared years ago to 3.818,2.250, 1.623, 1.286, 1.083 and 0.929. I used the stock 5th for 6th in the re-geared box. If I had to do it again, I'd keep the stock 6th as an "over-drive" low rpm highway cruiser and gas saving gear. You are unlikely to use 6th at most race tracks anyway.

Thanks for the heads up on the Tom. The box is custom and the ratios are not entirely G50 or G64 specs. I don't know if 1st is G50/32 spec. so I can't assert the ratios. Also, did you mean to say that Leland's box has a 6th gear ratio of 0.828? That sounds awfully close to the 0.829 ratio of the 50/32. My 6th is custom and is 0.857 which I thought was the same ratio as Leland had on his car.

here is a comparison of many of the desireable g50s, including the one Chris Cervelli did for Leland
the speeds are only for comprison purposes only as the rev limit of 6500 and tire height of 25" was standarized for all

What is the price range to have this done? Is it true that this really transforms the car, maybe even more so than a 3.8 upgrade?

Louis - not trying to derail your sale... assume your price is lower than starting from scratch.

yes, but in a different way, both are very nice but for different reasons

Bill: Thank you much for posting this.

Peg: Maybe others can chime in and comment on the box vs. 3.8. Danny (DJF1) and Mike J. have driven my car so maybe they can chime in and comment on it.

I've had four 993s and I've liked them all for different reasons but this is by far my favorite due the the mods...especially the box. After owning this car, I can assure you that my next 993 will have a close ratio box. It's in a different universe from the stock box and truly transforms how the car works. And yes, my box is very well priced. Do a search and you'll find just how much it costs to get your box regeared.
