Made this "mistake" when I bought the car. Changed the battery and then stupidly went to the test center the next day...LOL! I read up on it, here (greatest resource on the planet). Went out and attempted the BMW drive cycles 4 times and then drove 1,000 to FL and back. Should be ready right? Nope. 2 of the 5 still not ready. Went to the stealer and paid $350, codes reset 2 hours later.

I did the same thing you did except the BMW drive Cycle worked fine for me. Just cost me 2 trips to the emissions station and $20 instead of $10, NBD.

"There are certain rediness reset functions that can be done by the PST-2,"

That's not correct. Using the PST2 can simplify and expedite the setting of
the readiness states. Also, it can provide a status as they are completed,
indicating which are problematic. If that were the case, no car would pass
without a trip to the Porsche dealer.

I've driven some 993s after an OBDII reset where the readiness states were
fully set and ready for an emission test by driving only 30-45 minutes. If there's
an OBDII problem, no amount of driving will set the states.

Check here where it's explained:

the BMW protocol worked for me on my '97 Cab. I e-mailed it to Martin this morning.

Isn't this a wonderful place?
