My interior project has officially started
Phase I : Grey interior to black + silver gauge rings
I do not like the grey interior and after some searching here on Rennlist (god I love this place!), I ended up ordering a dye kit from colour plus.
The kit arrived today and I started by taking off the dashboard.
I cleaned up both pieces with the citrus cleaner that came with the kit and rinsed with warm water.
Then I proceeded to use the Surflex dye on the plastic trim piece.
The leather parts need to dry 24 hours after cleaning before I can apply the Surflex on them so that will have to wait until tomorrow.
The plastic trim piece came out great as you can see:
I also installed the silver gauge rings I ordered from Germany. I used small pieces of double sided tape:
Stay tuned for Phase II!

Looking good. It is worth the time and effort in the end. Be thankful you don't have to dye your headliner. That was painful, but worth it. How much do those silver gauge rings go for? I would like to do white face gauges as well, but I have seen some high prices on those.

Grey interior to black
I'm undergoing the same process, but doing things a little differently. Had the console covered with black leather, Carnewal black/alum shift **** and handbrake, reconditioned black 996 Turbo seats to go in next. Having some trouble with the wiring.
How difficult is it to get that dash cover off? I would really like to wrap it in leather too.
Any idea what the grey seats would go for?

I was going to redo my interior and started by getting black hard back sport seats from 2002 996. Chuck W's experience with changing seat color has deterred me and I have a set of HBS seats for sale for what I paid ($2,150 incl shipping). PM if interested.

Hi Tom,
I think I will either take it out completely or try to dye it black.
Thanks for the offer but I love my sparco seats!
I just finished first step of Phase I; the dashboard is now black and installed back in the car. I'm loving it!!
Next up will be the lower part and the door skins. I also have some CF panelling to install into the dash...

Nice.
My car had a black dash, but grey carpeting and a grey center console/shift/ebrake. Since my door panels were replaced with RS, no challenges there, same with the RS carpet kit. But since I was leaving my center console stock for now, I cleaned and sprayed with flexible vinyl paint - all still looking good.

Looks good so far!
Surflex is pretty cool stuff. I restored the seats in my 964 with that stuff a couple of years ago using the same process and it has held up very well. And it is light grey!
You reminded me I need to get a color sample to them for another car...
Have fun!
